Established in 2007, Yusr International Schools (YIS) is a private school brand catering to local and expatriate communities in Jeddah. SEDCO Holding took a 50% stake in the brand in 2017, aligning with the priority accorded to education in Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Plan.
The school operates two campuses, with the larger one in Jeddah’s Al Nahda district accommodating 1,500 pupils. Pre-primary students benefit from mixed classes, with gender segregation introduced from Grades 1 to 3. The campus hosts female-only classes for Grades 4 to 12. Meanwhile, the smaller Al Shatea campus caters for boys from Grade 4 to 12, and can accommodate 500 pupils.
In 2018 total student numbers rose to 2,107 from 2,033 the year previous. YIS laid the groundwork for a Primary Years Program (PYP) accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization.
YIS continued operating two Tatweer-developed elementary schools in Makkah with a total capacity of 240 students. The schools form part of a YIS strategy to establish its brand across Saudi Arabia as owner and operator. The new schools will also serve as feeders for other eventual YIS-operated properties in Makkah.
Work continued on the two schools being built to suit for YIS by SEDCO’s asset management subsidiary SEDCO Capital. The two campuses in Jeddah’s Al Shatea area will cater for 4,000 students upon completion, with YIS taking over management.
Looking to the future
YIS will grow its brand of quality American education nationwide while exploring opportunities presented by the Ministry of Education’s target of doubling the number of students enrolled in private schools over the next 5 years. It will also begin work on acquiring an MYP Middle years accreditation from the IB International Baccalaureate Organization.
